Angels Of Epilepsy Foundation was founded by Natalie Y. Beavers in 2008. Born and raised in Atlanta, GA, she is a proud and dedicated mother to her two boys. Natalie has had several experiences throughout her life dealing with this medical condition. Going through these experiences is what encouraged her to start the "Angels Of Epilepsy Foundation."
Natalie was diagnosed with Epilepsy at the age of 5. During her high school years, Natalie and her family thought maybe she had become seizure free, but the seizures reoccurred during her college years. Having many seizures over the past few years, Natalie met new doctors at Emory University Epilepsy Hospital in Atlanta that gave her important information on her condition. Being hospitalized for testing for some time, Natalie decided to have brain surgery for doctors to find the exact part of the brain where her seizures were coming from. Natalie had her first brain surgery-craniotomy in September of 2008, where doctors found the exact part of the brain that they needed. In November 2008, she had her final craniotomy to remove the damaged tissue & her hypo campus that was causing majority of her episodes. Her seizures have decreased tremendously, but due to a cyst that is on her brain, which doctors chose not to remove because it may cause permanent disability or paralyzing to her body, Natalie still deals with seizures from time to time. She has gone through post-operation testing & rehabilitation. She deals with some short-term memory loss & weakness but she is glad & thankful to have a decrease in her seizures.
Natalie has gone through some horrified situations living with this medical condition. Due to a tragic accident that happen years ago, Natalie tells her story about what happened when she had a seizure while driving. The Angels of Epilepsy Foundation lets other patients know this story so we can help save lives.
Natalie & her foundation is working and praying very hard that a law can be passed. This law hoping to be passed is for epilepsy survivors & their driving privileges. If a doctor feels that a patient should not drive, the doctor should have the patient sign a letter stating that they were informed not to drive for a certain amount time & then the doctor should report to the Department of Motor Vehicles to have their patient license cancelled until they feel their well enough to drive. This law will save many innocent lives & help people so they will not face horrified circumstances like Natalie herself. Natalie and A.O.E. hopes this law will be named "The Sandra Beckett Law" & will be passed by congress to save many lives in the near future.
The Angels Of Epilepsy Foundation has received many calls & e-mails from Epileptics around the world. There have been many stories told to us, as well as patients going through horrified situations. Natalie & her foundation send many prayers for epileptics & their families all over the world.
